Web-Based Survey Techniques (TCRP Synthesis #69)
Length:
1 Day(s)
Description:
Plan now to participate in NTI’s free T-Class, Web-Based Survey Techniques, based on TCRP’s Synthesis Study #69. NTI, in cooperation with the Transit Cooperation Research Program (TCRP) and the American Public Transportation Association (APTA), offers a series of T-Classes each year that highlight specific TCRP reports. These reports address current topics and trends in the transit industry. This topic will be of interest to transit planners and managers and those who work with them as they attempt to develop and refine web-based surveys for their own transit agencies.
This study describes how transit agencies and researchers use web-based surveys and documents the experiences of web-based survey research as applied to transit. In addition, the study documented the current state of the practice, identifies successful practices in web-based surveying, and discusses the technologies necessary to conduct web-based surveys. This report utilized a survey that garnered responses from 36 transit professionals and includes three detailed case studies: NJ TRANSIT, the Southern California Regional Rail Authority (Metrolink), and the Tri-County Metropolitan Transportation District of Oregon (TriMet). The T-Class will be presented by Greg M. Spitz of Resource Systems Group, Inc., White River Junction, VT. Discussion topics include: - Learning the differences between web-based surveys and other survey methods
- Compiling email databases
- Why transit agencies do, or do not now use web-based surveying
- How to implement web-based survey technology
- The use of web-based surveys for ”limited focus” studies
The T-Class lasts 90 minutes and is delivered in a telephone conference format. Expert panelists discuss the topics during the first 60 minutes of the teleconference; the last 30 minutes are dedicated to open phones for questions from the audience.
All times for T-Classes are EASTERN TIME
