Optimization Models for Prioritizing Bus Stop Facility Investments for Riders with Disabilities
Length:
120 minutes
Audience:
This webinar is intended for transit professionals interested in issues related to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Bus Stop Accessibility, Geographic Information Systems, Multi-Objective Optimization, and Analytic Hierarchy Process.
Description:
The FTA, in cooperation with NTI, offers research that is invaluable to transit professionals. This webinar is a continued effort on behalf of two distinguished researchers from the Florida International University Lehman Center for Transportation Research. The research was sponsored by the FTA Office of Research, Demonstration and Innovation, Office of Mobility Innovation.
Objectives: The purpose of the research was to develop a scientific method to help prioritize bus stops for accessibility improvements for riders with disabilities. Two optimization models were proposed and evaluated. Based on a case study using data from the Broward County Transit in Florida, the models were found to produce a list of bus stops that would extend the greatest benefits to riders with disabilities.
